Library Safaris
Barking library April 29th – 9.30 – 4.30pm
Sutton Coldfield library June 6th – 10.00 – 5pm
Using a series of practical activities with space for reflection and idea-sharing, our innovative Library Safaris evaluated the current customer experience and assessed this against experiences in other environments, specifically retail. Participants left our workshops with up-to-date knowledge of what is really appealing to the modern consumer and a robust understanding of how to apply this knowledge in practice in your own libraries.
The role of the library in 20 years’ time is uncertain. We must question not just what the library space will be used for, but whether it will be needed at all. If resources are moving increasingly online, what purpose does the space serve that once housed them? One thing we do know is that the role of the library within a community is evolving. The way people interact with the library and the services it offers is also evolving. As we move through these uncertain times, libraries, like many service environments, are looking for ways to retain or attract new customers to use / use more of their services. A key part of this challenge (and opportunity) is improving the experience the library space delivers to its end users.
