Children’s social care – transformation

To effect real change on the ground, we believe that a whole systems view is essential within children’s social care. In our experience, working with individual teams in isolation can mean opportunities for greater effectiveness and efficiency are missed and some solutions can have knock-on consequences that may not be identified at an individual level.

Our tried and tested approach to transformation is rooted in common sense. We bring a no-nonsense attitude with a focus on the ‘how’ – the feasible next steps. Our approach to achieving transformational change and significant savings starts with quick-wins and building on prototypes, to gain buy-in and commitment to the bigger changes that lie ahead. We don’t make the mistake of focussing on one thing as this can mean that other, more hidden, opportunities can be missed e.g. procurement, structures, processes and IT systems. When changes can be made, we don’t wait until “the implementation phase”, we just do them. Finally, becoming trapped in an endless cycle of analysis is a common unconscious method used to avoid making difficult decisions. Instead, we support our clients to make decisions based on clear assumptions which are documented, evaluated and adjusted, before being implemented through a safe prototype approach.

We have a great deal of experience within children's services. We have worked with councils across the country including Wakefield, Devon and Cambridgeshire on projects spanning early intervention, safeguarding, fostering and adoption and developing new models of delivery, as well as with the Department for Education (DfE).

Devon County Council – process review

Following an Ofsted judgement of ‘inadequate’, a RedQuadrant team was commissioned to carry out a fundamental review of the service’s business processes and system functionality, and develop a set of tailored recommendations, set within a framework of understanding the culture, locality and context in which the service operates, as well as the key issues raised by Ofsted. Our team provided the authority with recommendations alongside a detailed implementation plan; this included timescales and KPIs as part of a whole improvement programme.
